PIjazz2007 PIjazz2007 Philippine International Jazz & Art Festival-Official website
I arrived on a hot sunny day in Manila on February 20 in the midst of the PIJazzfest in full swing. I felt a rush of excitement at the thought of returning to my home country to finally be able to play some jazz.

The Philippine International Jazz and Arts Festival 2007, on it's 2nd year geared up for 9 days of continuous shows by local and foreign artists and was brought to a climax with performances by jazz greats Diane Schuur, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira.

Held at several citywide malls, the event marked not only the celebration of the rebirth of jazz but also the fulfillment of a dream for all Philippine artists to have a self-achieved platform for jazz.

For me, it was an eye opening experience to see so much talent and potential in our young generation of artists. I definitely had a ball checking out and being checked out as a musician. The conversations I had with some of the artists were truly heartening and very encouraging. It's always exciting to see growth and development and be part of something we strongly support and believe in. .

Clearly, PIJazz has begun to pave the way for our many artists giving them hope to create and innovate, to discover and develop. I grew up in a family of music lovers listening to all the great standards. Little did I know back then that I would build my singing career in jazz. Coming back to Manila to do a jazz gig was a moving experience for me. I truly would like to be instrumental in making more possibilities happen with the help of friends, jazz fans and supporters.

And as in all pioneering endeavors, there are challenges and hurdles, but it was a definitely great start that we can continue to build on.

Congratulations PIJazz, keep swingin!!
